Komorebi Fairies
My art piece, Komorebi Fairies, is a mixed media piece showcasing a tree with sunlight rays spilling through the branches. In the rays, there are little fairies and pieces out of a storybook. The main element seen in the artwork is the use of pieces of paper that make a mosaic. My artwork is made from paint, color pencil, newspaper, chalk, paper, marker, and pencil shavings, as well as a gloss Mod Podge to hold everything down. I used a stencil print for the leaves and used my fingers to spread the yellow color of the sunbeams. The paper is torn-up newspaper stuff. What inspired my artwork overall was the Japanese word for komorebi, which refers to the phenomenon of light filtering through the trees from sunlight.
Stars Hollow
My art piece, Stars Hollow, is an acrylic paint piece on a medium pumpkin showcasing a small town called Stars Hollow from the 2000s tv show Gilmore Girls. It shows a small town square as well as a diner. The main element seen in the artwork is the use of dark green colors in the nature. My artwork is made from acrylic paint. What inspired my artwork overall was the tv show and how nostalgic and lively the whole vibe of the show is. It's one of my favorite shows, and me and my mom relate to the main characters who are mother and daughter (Rory and Lorelai) and making this town on the pumpkin reminds me of the first fall that I ever watched the show.
KiwiLime
My art piece, KiwiLime, is an acrylic paint piece on a white canvas showcasing a macro image of a kiwi that kind of resembles a lime. The main element visible in the artwork is the contrast between yellow and various shades of green. My artwork is made from acrylic paint. What inspired my artwork overall was the spirituality and femininity behind the kiwi fruit. It's one of my favorite fruits, and it happens to be my family's favorite as well. The kiwi represents good news, healing, refreshment, and well-being, as well as love and sexuality in some cultures. One of the hard parts of this painting was blending the colors. I should have used medium as well as more water to make the paint spread and blend better. If I were to do this again, I would have chosen more detailed references since my painting originally was not supposed to be a kiwi-lime fruit.
My art piece is an acrylic paint piece on two sea shells. showcasing a landscape of a beach at different perspectives. The main element visible in the artwork is the blending of blues and greens and teals to make the water. My artwork is made from acrylic paint. What inspired my artwork overall was my love for the ocean ever since i was little. It's my favorite place to be and when i grow up i want to be a marine biologist so that i can learn more about it's creatures. the ocean is such a serenc landscape and when it comes to paintings of the ocean i knew i wanted it to be on a seashell. One of the hard parts of this painting was blending the colors.
Jellyfish beyond the borders
My art piece, Jellyfish beyond the borders, is a watercolor painting showing three different-colored jellyfish protruding from a box. The jellyfish are in color, and the outside of the box is in black and white. The main element seen in the artwork is the bright water colored jellyfish in blue, orange, and pink against a light blue ocean background. My artwork is made from watercolor pencils and a black pen. I used a ruler to make the perfect box, and then I sketched the jellyfish out in pencil first. Then I colored the jellyfish in colored pencil before using a small paintbrush to wet the painting. One thing that I did was I used baby oil to blend one of them, but I ended up liking the way it looked to use water instead. What inspired my artwork overall was my love for jellyfish. They are my absolute favorite thing to doodle and draw, and they are my favorite animals in the world.
The Sad Blue Bunny
My art piece, The Sad Blue Bunny, is a liquid watercolor bubble painting showing blue and pink bright bubble prints and the blue is in the shape of a bunny. The main element seen in the artwork is the bright water colored bubble prints made that stand out against the white paper. My artwork is made from liquid watercolor, soap, and a black pen. I used a straw to blow bubbles in a cup to create the bubble print on the paper. I also outlined the bunny's ears and eyes and mouth with sharpie pen. One thing that I really liked about this was that at first I didn't really see much that I could draw from on the paper, but with a different pair of eyes aka my mom, I was able to see a bunny in the blue bubble pattern. What inspired my artwork overall was the idea my mom gave me. After I saw the bunny I knew exactly what I wanted to do because it showed that everyone interprets art differently. Sometimes it's nice to see things from someone elses perspective.
Beach landscape paint pour
My art piece, Beach landscape paint pour, is an acrylic multicolored paint pour piece with a beach landscape painted on top. The main element seen in the artwork is the multiple warm themed colors mixing over the top of the canvas and the dark contrasting shadows of the black paint on top. My artwork is made from a method called paint pouring which is when you layer multiple colors of acrylic paint and pour it over your canvas. I used Floetrol mixed with different warm toned colors in a cup and layered them to pour on top, then I used black paint to make a beach setting. One of my favorite parts of this piece is the trees and mountains reflecting on the water. One thing I loved about this is that It only took me one try to get the paint pour the exact way I wanted it. What inspired my artwork overall was the idea of seeing the sunset or even sunrise at the beach and the quiet feeling when no one is at the beach but you. I got inspiration randomly one night at like 2am and I saw someone else did the same.
Scream Splatter
My art piece, Scream Splatter, is a watercolor and acrylic paint piece with the Ghostface from Scream 1996. This is a paint piece using the Chinese ink blowing method. The main element seen in the artwork is the bright red splatter and patterned streaks of red watercolor ink surrounding the black and white Ghostface. My artwork is made from a method called ink blowing which is when you pick colors of your choice in either ink or watercolor paint and using a straw you blow patterns with the watercolor/ink. I used red watercolor for the ink blowing in the background and then for the Ghostface painting on top I used black and white acrylic paint. One of my favorite parts of this piece is the bold red around Ghostface, I think it really goes into the overall vibe of the piece as well as the Scream movie. One thing I would do differently i wait for the red paint in the background to fully dry because it mixed with the white and made pink at first. What inspired my artwork overall was obviously the Scream movie which is one of my favorite movies so I was super excited when I got this idea. I really love how nostalgic the 90s slasher theme is and I think my art piece really reflects that which is why it's my favorite.
Srength and Power
My art piece, Strength and Power, is a water marbling piece with a white crown on the front in honor of the artist Jean-Michel Basquiat. This is a paint piece using the ancient Japanese method of water marbling. The main element seen in the artwork is the patterned neon colors behind a solid white abstract crown over the front. My artwork is made from a method called water marbling which is when you pick colors of your choice in a specific paint used for water marbling and you then add drops of the colors and they will spread to make patterns. I used different neon colors over a liquid used for water marbling and a comb to make patterns. One of my favorite parts of this piece is the bright colors I chose to use in the background. What inspired my artwork overall was the artwork that Jean-Michel Basquiat made that showcased abstract images of people of African american descent with crowns above their heads. I love how the crown showcases power and royalty and how many Black people of all cultures around the world have fought through so much to protect their identity and rights. Being Black is a huge part of my identity which is why originally I wanted to do this piece for Black History Month.
They Were Here First
My art piece, They Were Here First, is a cubist painting. The main element seen in the artwork is the bright color in each section. My artwork is made from acrylic paint and paint pens. One of my favorite parts of this piece is the use of bland colors for land and bright patterns and colors for the sea. What inspired my artwork overall was how many teens these days don't care about pollution or making sure to even pick up after themselves when having trash outside.
